Malden Catholic High School is pleased to announce it has accepted 58 members as Saint Francis Xavier (SFX) Scholars for the Class of 2016.

Students in grades one through eight at St. Joseph School in Medford participated in a series of spelling bees during Catholic Schools Week.

The Medford Chamber of Commerce will be offering the following scholarships for Medford students:

Medford High School, 489 Winthrop St., will honor more than 100 students at this year’s Scholastic Awards Ceremony, which is scheduled for Thursday night, March 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Little Theater at MHS.

Malden Catholic High School’s Model Bridge Club recently competed in the 2012 Model Bridge Competition.

Course Selection Night for prospective ninth graders at Medford High School, 489 Winthrop St., will be held on Monday, March 5 (the original February date for this event needed to be changed due to the renovations in the Little Theater) at 7 p.m. with a general session in the MHS Little Theater, where Headmaster Paul Krueger will address students and parents.

On Saturday, March 3, the Brooks Elementary School PTO will hold Recycle Day at the school, 388 High St., enter school driveway from Prescott Street.

The Medford Family Network presents “In the Middle,” a program for parents of middle school-aged youth on Wednesdays, Feb. 29, March 7, March 14, March 21, March 28, April 4 and April 11, from 7– 8:30 p.m., at the MFN Family Center, Medford High School, 489 Winthrop St., with  Howard Wolfe, LMFT.

The Medford School Committee meeting of Feb. 13 has been postponed to Feb. 27 in City Hall, 85 George P. Hassett Drive, at 7 p.m. 

In January, 40 students from Medford’s Vocational-Technical High School and 23 students from Medford High School took part in a project designed to build solar cells.

All programs will take place at 10 Govenor’s Ave., beginning at 7 p.m.,  and are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.  If changes to this program listing are necessary a revised listing will be published at www.medfordhistorical.org/events.

A fresh idea is coming to our community, offering economically disadvantaged multilingual women a way out of homelessness and poverty through the use of their language skills.

Congratulations to 25 Medford High School students selected for achievement in the 2012 Boston Globe Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, administered by The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.

The Medford Boys and Girls Club is hosting a February vacation program for youth ages 6-15 from Feb. 21–Feb. 24, from 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

The Medford School Committee meeting scheduled for Monday, Feb. 6, 2012 has been changed to Thursday,  Feb. 9.  The meeting will be held at the Superintendent’s Conference Room, Medford High School, 489 Winthrop St., at 7p.m.

Tufts University ranks No. 15 on the 2012 top Peace Corps volunteer-producing colleges and universities in the medium size category.

Residents and student athletes who attended a meeting last week to push for the passage of a $2.37 million bond to fix the Medford High School pool can rest assured that their voices were heard loud and clear by city officials.

Brimmer and May students Liam Maasri and Victoria Smith, both from Medford, and 16 additional Upper School students, attended the 38thAnnual Yale Model United Nations conference on Jan. 19-22.

After years of being closed, the Medford High School swimming pool could once again become a community resource.
